pre-arr
born in the snowy forests of the skatay range, ramza lived a secluded life by nature until the region was forcefully changed by garlean subjugation of dalmasca. while the veena were successful in keeping the garleans out of the forest using guerrilla warfare tactics, ramza, in his own want for further thrill and experience, decided to leave his home behind and join the dalmascan resistance. he was among their ranks for some years before deserting under undisclosed circumstances. utilizing disguise and the cover of night, he cut a path toward the eastern coast where he stowed away in two boats: one that carried him to kugane, and one that sailed him to eorzea. it was then that his story as the warrior of light begun.

the choosing of his name
as most viera do when they leave the forest, ramza chose a new name for himself when going to join the dalmascan resistance. growing up, his bedtime stories and campfire tales were of the mythical, ancient kingdom of ivalice, once standing where dalmasca stood now. and of the many heroes a part of those tales, the zodiac brave, ramza beoulve, was his favorite. so whether or not those legends were of true history, and ever a closeted romantic, he still chose the name ramza braveheart to honor this mythical hero and perhaps one day be a hero of his own.

his flavor of reaper

over the course of his time in the first, ramza's voidsent and his light corruption fuse together. though the light was thought to be completely expunged after the fight with hades, the voidsent had already been permanently turned. ultimately, it had been merging with ardbert that greatly helped bottleneck the spread of further light corruption for the time being.unfortunately, however, this means that every time ramza enshrouds he calls forth a sin eater- the sin eater he would've become if the light corruption had gone unchecked. the sin eater he may still become, for the light corruption still spreads.his human body shows signs of this quietly looming future, too. rough patches of rough, white sin eater skin spreads over his own. his hair grows lighter now and gold creeps into his irises. and most recently, a small pair of wings have started to grow from the base of his skull.—ramza has a unique wield style for his scythe. while he does perform the customary slicing motions with it, he also uses the back end as a blunt force tool, much like a hammer. before others caught on and started making stronger, custom scythes for him, he snapped many of them due to the force.

for zenos' legacy

ramza and zenos are alike in that they both crave the hunt and take joy in finding worthy opponents. after zenos' death, ramza claims his scythe in recognition of their shared pursuits and to convey that the hunt isn't over. as long as ramza still breathes, he will continue to look for that worthy adversary, and zenos will be with him when it comes to pass.
